If you want cuteness and intelligence in an animal, you have it all wrapped up into these amazing pets. It’s just amazing to me that these boys have not yet found homes. They are extremely intelligent pets who interact all the time with their human counterparts. Degus are beautiful little animals, that can live 8 to 10 years or more.
Squiggy is just as sweet and loving as his brother Lenny. He loves to have his belly scratched and to play.
They are colony animals and do better in pairs. Lone degus are often depressed. If you wish to breed Squiggy, I will not have an unrelated female for him, so you will need to provide your own.
His best and favorite buddy is his brother Lenny. If you opt to go the pet route and decide to take Lenny, I am willing to sell them both for $375. These boys are the exact same age, and are already bonded in their own cage.
Squiggy is a non Agouti Blue (Schecke) Pied Male Degus, with a White Tips. Schecke is a German word meaning “spotted or dappled”. Many of these colorations, have been developed and imported from Europe. They are both 100% het for Black. This line comes from parents who were imported from Europe, so they will not be related to anything we have in Arizona now.
They were born on 01/30/22.
I will be coming to Phoenix on May 7th, so I can deliver.
They would make a great addition to any breeding project. Degus should never be kept alone, so I would like the two brothers to go together. My vet is not offering neuter services for degus at this time, so it’s important he go with another male, if not breeding.
Here is a video link to them all eating broccoli leaves with their mom. Dad keeps photo-bombing.
This is a more rare coloration, but the price does not change if you want him for either pet or breeding.
At the end of the boy’s photos in the gallery are photos of their parents. Socks (the dad) is a Black Pied and Mittens (the mom) is a non Agouti Blue Pied.
Degus are small rodents from Chile, who are closely related to Chinchillas. Their diet is very bland and they eat a base of a pellet that has no added sugars. Degus are susceptible to diabetes, so low sugar diets are best. They also are given mixes of dried Timothy Hay, Mum Flowers, Dandelion, Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds as well as an unsalted peanut each night for a snack. They also enjoy some type of fresh veggie once a day such as carrots, zucchini, any type of squash, cucumber, lettuce or celery.
I do sell a very safe mix in my store for them. It contains a non-sugary pellet that is imported from the UK, as well as many herbal additives:
Degus are amazingly loving little animals that bond with their owners. They make many adorable noises and can live 8 to 10 years. They are companion animals, so it’s very important that you do not have a degu already, that you consider purchasing a 2nd.
